In the Press conference by the US Secretary of State much of Dr Kissinger's opening statement was devoted to the Middle East, the energy crisis, the commitment of the US through all post war Administrations to the security of Israel, the US's interest in mainlining a balanced relationship with the Arab countries, the maintaining of agreements with the Soviet Union in the Middle East, the Oil embargo against Europe and Japan by the Arab States has been lifted but Saudi Arabia has not lifted the oil embargo against the US, cooperation from the governments of Israel, Egypt and Jordan to get a peace in the Middle East, the pattern of relationships with the Soviet Union, SALT and MBFR and the opening of the Suez Canal. Dr Kissinger also spoke on Detente, including relations with the Soviet Union and China, and relations with West Europe. US Foreign Policy goals.
